Right To Studies in the Right to Shelter Spring 2020
Instructor: Dr. Sharon Egretta Sutton
As a class of six, we created and presented a proposal for starting a Right to Shelter Lab at The New School. The organization would focus on increasing students’ exposure and knowledge of homelessness and the housing crisis within New York City and beyond. Our aim was for the Right to Shelter Lab to foster long standing engagement with the housing crisis through courses, projects, research, and public programs. My primary focus in the proposal was designing a Home Station program for the Right to Shelter Lab dedicated to discussing housing issues on an interpersonal level to help build connections, compassion, and momentum towards change. Home Station would be an inviting, mobile venue that records and shares stories about housing struggles, while also being a destination for guidance and information.
